Power Rangers Beastmaster Legends - 9/11/01 Remembrance
September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack Remembrance (Originally Written In: 2011)
Originally, this was going to be the next episode in succession, but I thought that the 10th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack here in the US was more important. Episode 48 will debut next week, back on schedule.

10 years ago, at approximately 8:45am, what started out as a normal day in America suddenly turned sour when an airplane 'accidentally' flew into one of the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. It could have been an accident, but it was perfectly clear out. It caused some severe damage to the tower that it struck, but who knew that, about 15 minutes later, our lives as we knew them would be changed forever...

Immediately following the attacks, nearly every television network and cable outlet in the country switched to feeds of either Fox News, CNN, or MSNBC. By afternoon, I think the only networks left showing any kind of programming were Cartoon Network (for sure), Nickelodeon (possibly, though I could be wrong), and Disney Channel (again, I could be wrong on that one, too). In the coming days, everything was somber across the nation. All of the fun that we, as a nation, were having up until 9/10 was put on the back burner. Flags were flying everywhere. The mood across the entire country was very somber. Everything became about just being with your family and friends, and caring about each other. All of the entertainment shows either went off of the air for a brief time or were very somber. This is a clip from Live with Regis and Kelly, originally aired on September 18th, 2001, which was their first show back after the tragedy, which they were on the air for as it happened:

In the years that followed, New York City would shine a series of spotlights into the air, creating two pillars of light symbolizing where the Twin Towers once stood, every year on the night of September 11th...

Spotlights

Now, ten years later, things have gotten back to normal across the country. Sure, our economy's in the toilet, but the entertainment industry - which, at the time, pretty much stopped everything - has gotten back almost to where it was pre-9/11. As our tribute, we would like to present "Skyscraper," a rather fitting song, performed by Demi Lovato. (We know it's about her own struggles with her personal issues, but it's hauntingly appropriate for this tribute.)

Personally, I'll always remember where I was that morning. I was at home, tuning in to watch Live with Regis and Kelly. When I saw that the one tower had been hit (before the suspicion that it was an intentional attack, and before the second plane struck on live TV), my immediate first thought was that I wouldn't get to see Regis that morning. (Mind you, I was naive and 21 at the time.) As things unfolded, I was glued to my TV. I think I stuck with the NBC News coverage. It seems the most familiar to me.

Never forget.
